About KissinCussin...
KissinCussin is the brain-child of cousins Jess Brown and Hayley Maynard. The label, already making waves on the Australian fashion scene since its conception in 2007, was founded out of passion when the girls volunteered to rebuild a small Sri Lankan village in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami.

Jess and Hayley were immediately inspired by the incredible people and chaos of Sri Lanka's famous Pettah markets, where wacky fabrics, quirky buttons and unbelievably cute prints, from flowers to spaceships to umbrellas to apples, cemented the way forward for, soon to be, print based label KissinCussin.

KissinCussin embodies the adventures of two cousins and offers something fresh, colourful and unique. Inspired by the environment, the people of Sri Lanka and a love of freedom, fashion and adventure, the label is a fusion of their two personalities and style and has an ethical outlook. Working closely in Talalla Bay, the cousins use local ladies to sew for them, generating livelihoods and supporting women in far reached communities.

KissinCussin grew from humble beginnings following Cousin Jess and Cousin Hayley's work volunteering to help put Talalla Bay, a small idyllic fishing village on the south coast of Sri Lanka, back on its feet after the tsunami of 2004. The cousins quickly adopted the philosophy that love and even little things can make a huge difference and this was carried through with the conception of their label, KissinCussin. Over the eight months that the cousins spent rebuilding the village a strong relationship was forged with the community of Talalla Bay. They left realising there was more that they could do to help and returned a year later and started an ethical production facility with the foundations of their label. They employed just three local ladies to make a small range of dresses and pioneered a dream for the cousins to increase this further. After two years they now employ 12 ladies, a number that will continue to grow with KissinCussin. As demand for the label has increased, the girls have outsourced another ethical production source in Sri Lanka, where they help a different village, in the same way. The work that Jess and Hayley do in Talalla Bay, and other communities, is as much a part of KissinCussin’s structure as the clothing. KissinCussin has developed as a print based label, their fabrics are sourced and hand printed, with unique designs, in Rajasthan India, which fits with their outlook and aspiration to support smaller, cottage industries in the fashion industry.

Ten years ago, Lindy McLeod was living abroad and while visiting France she admired the women of Paris rushing home in the evenings and on weekends with their fresh produce - fruit, breads, meats and cheeses - brimming in their seriously chic shopping baskets. She bought some for herself which rapidly became an indispensable part of her life since, as well as looking great, they proved to be extremely hard-wearing and the handles were very strong and did not break.

After returning to Australia and realising how many plastic bags we use as a nation (at its peak over 7 billion annually!), Lindy began investigating the possibility of bringing a classic French-style shopping basket to Australia.

She is now able to share the market basket shopping experience with Australians. A simple, stylish, multi-functional shopping basket, a household item in France, is now available in Australia. The baskets have been a phenomenal success wherever they have been sold.

These baskets are genuine French-style market baskets imported from Morocco. Each one is handmade using traditional methods and techniques and so is unique. The baskets are made of strips of woven palm leaves from a species of date palm - Phoenix Dactylifera. The strips are then sewn together and the basket built up in "rounds" into the traditional triangle shape, variations of which can be found in countries all around the Mediterranean. The more rounds the bigger the basket! The handles are of genuine Moroccan leather and firmly fixed to the baskets so they won't pull off. Handles are either short so the baskets can be carried in the hand or on the elbow, or longer to go over the shoulder.

Naturally, they work best filled with the best Australian fresh produce but they are also extremely versatile, either as a fabulous companion for shopping, for transporting gourmet goodies on picnics, as a great beach bag. They also make a perfect present - either on their own or filled with great food and wine. You can even take one away for the weekend - it's much easier to pack than a suitcase!

Lest We Forget

Today the 11.11.2011 is Remembrance Day, a day where we remember the brave soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

I think about the phrase “Lest We Forget” and think about how much we do forget the service and all the good that the armed forces do for our countries and other countries in order for Australian’s to be able to live in what I would call peace and freedom.

Maybe it’s a reflection of my generation, but I could never grasp the concept of those that are willing to risk their safety, lives and happiness or their families and friends for their country. This clearly shows that it takes a certain person, a selfless person to do such a job and put themselves in such a position. I don’t think that there is enough transparency in the news about the work that our soldiers are doing for us and other countries. Unfortunately we hear about the tragedies and fatalities more then anything.

I like to take days like Remembrance Day and ANZAC Day to not just remember those who have lost their lives in battle, but also those that are still out there fighting, and those who have fought in the past for something we so often take for granted – peace.

My father served in both the Navy and the Army Reserves. I remember once back around the time of 9/11 (I think it was around that time, I just remember I was in primary school) he was asked to go overseas with the Reserves and I was mortified. Even now, today just thinking about it makes me cry. He never went which selfishly I am so grateful for, but appreciate all the other soldiers that did go, have gone, are gone.

Don’t wait for ANZAC Day or Remembrance Day to pay your respects. If you pass a shrine, go in, look around, they are beautiful places with an energy that sends chills down your spine. Remember and give thanks.

Wedding Dilemmas - Skin & Slim

With my sisters wedding is fast approaching, aside from all the stresses which come hand in hand with a wedding, two things which are playing on my mind are my skin and getting slim. Skin and slim are by no means foreign concerns for a woman and definitely not a woman in a bridle party! With two weeks until the wedding it is freak out time, obviously i know nothing is going to alter drastically in two weeks, but slight improvements would be appreciated.

As some of you may know, i was sent up to Sydney for work a few weeks ago and am going to be up here for another week before i am home for good. Being away for work has it's positives which in normal circumstances cancel out all the negatives by far, but being so close to the wedding to be honest the change in routine is the last thing i needed...

I have gone from walking 40mins to work nearly every day, to walking 4mins to work. Running home from work most days has changed to not running anywhere. Doing yoga/palates 4 times a week has changed to no yoga or palates and gym after my run home is also now obsolete. The change in exercise regime not only affects my weight, but also my skin, sleep patterns and mental health. Exercise aside i am also eating out every day because the kitchen in my apartment in Sydney may as well be non-existant, which doesn't help the weight situation.

So what do i plan to do?

Skin...

- Makeup Free Days: For the next two weeks i am going to have as many make up free days as possible. Unfortunately i am not blessed with the sort of natural beauty which means you can go to work without make up, so for those days that i am at work i will not be wearing any foundation, but will still use my mineral bronzer and blush so i don't look like a dead man walking (i am so pale it is blinding).

- Face Steam: With no sauna or steam room available the next best thing is steaming my face by either putting my head over a bowl of boiling water with a towel over it, or by soaking face cloths in boiling water and pressing them up against my face. After i finish steaming i always like to then either give my face a splash of cold water or alternatively soak a face cloth in cold water and again press it up to my face. Steaming helps to open the skins pores, boost circulation and soften skin and finishing with a splash of cold water at the end will stimulate circulation, flush capillaries and wake up lazy blood cells which can assist in healing.

- T2 Lemongrass & Ginger Tea: I made a trip to T2 today after work instead of my intended visit to Boost Juice. I went straight up to the shop assistants and said i was looking for something for a weight and skin detox. I was told that they were not supposed to recommend any products for medicinal purposes but they gave me a few options to choose out of. Rose was one of the options for skin and Lemongrass & Ginger was the other option. The shop assistant said that a beautician had told her that it was amazing for skin - i was sold!

Slim...

- Be Good: No snacking, watching my portion sizes and limiting my carbs is a bitch but needs to be done!

- Limit Alcohol Consumption: This should assist with skin and slim. I may allow myself a glass of red wine with dinner every few days, but white wine and cocktails need to wait until after the wedding. Don't quote me on this, all i can do is try my best!

- T2 Oolong Tea: This was another recommendation from the girls at T2 for weight loss. Oolong's benefits for weight loss are apparently well known and date back centuries. Oolong can assist in digestion, fat burning and reducing the build up of cholesterol in the bloodstream.

The verdict…
After the #gaspfail event went viral we have all been paying closer attention to the customer service we receive at stores, restaurants and other service providers, or at least I have anyway. As a consumer I expect good customer service where ever I go, but more often then not I am disappointed with my experience and leave feeling a little less satisfied then I should. But once in a while, every now and then, you encounter an experience which leaves you feeling warm, happy, appreciated and satisfied…

When I first arrived at Atlantis Hair I was warmly greeted and escorted to my seat by one of the lovely ladies on the floor. As my jacket was being taken I was asked if I wanted anything to drink, I said I already had a water bottle and was asked if I wanted a Nudie juice instead, my eyes lit up and I quickly responded with a keen “yes please”. I was then taken over to the little bar fridge where I was encouraged to select which flavour Nudie juice I wanted and true to form I chose the Nudie Cha Cha Cha Crushie – my fave! When I got comfy in my chair, I took a look around and realised that there was a drinks menu beside all of the mirrors for the customers to browse with organic herbal teas, coffee, juice and organic wines. Shortly after getting comfy my stylist, Wayne Lewis came over introduced himself and talked me through the treatment I would be having for the day and got to applying the CCT Clear Gloss.

The CCT Clear Gloss was applied to my hair, root to tip, as you would apply a colour and my hair was then wrapped in gladwrap for a while to give the CCT goodness a chance to penetrate my hair and do its magic. While I was waiting looking stunning all gladwrapped up I was asked if I wanted another drink, so I got a cheeky wine and with that came a little snack also.

A short while later it was time for the treatment to be rinsed out with some more lovely O&M products. I am fairly certain that the detox range was used to wash and condition, which smelt like peppermint and then the O&M Seven Day Miracle Moisture Masque was applied and massaged into my scalp (I LOVE scalp massages). The Seven Day Miracle Moisture Masque has won the Fellowship for Australian Hairdressing award, I won’t give too much away on the product because I plan to do a proper review soon, but it is stunning and smells like coconut – summer in a bottle!

My hair was then blow waved and I quickly rushed back to work. The overall experience was fantastic. Everyone who worked at the salon was warm, kind and happy to be at work, none of it put on it just really reflected in the overall vibe of the place and working environment. If I lived in Sydney Atlantis Hair would easily be my regular salon of choice, you really cannot get taken care of much better then I did. I had at least 10 people comment on how lovely my hair looked when I got back to work which was nice. After the treatment I didn’t notice too much difference in my hair, but the next time I washed my hair it seemed to feel silkier then usual and my curls were more prominent which happens when my hair is healthy.

Hamimi Store Opening in East Brisbane

As some of you may know, I stumbled upon the Hamimi pop up store on a recent visit to Brisbane for work. As of a few weeks ago Hamimi opened their permanent store in East Brisbane which is really exciting. Hamimi specialize in stunning homeware goods and exotic accessories suitable for modern, relaxed and traditional living spaces.
Hamimi products are designed by owners Alex and Rebecca and then handmade in Morocco using traditional craftsmanship. The owners Alex and Rebecca are brother and sister, Alex is on home soil, currently located in Brisbane, while Rebecca is situated amongst the action in Marrakech.

Tried & Tested - Eco Tan Invisible Tan

The Verdict…
When I first heard about Eco Tan Invisible Tan I was pretty excited that there was another eco tanning product on the market, because lets be honest the market for eco tanning products is a little slow, which means that the variety is fairly limited. I admit, when I first went to use the product I wasn’t sure what the quality would be like and was really hoping that the outcome would be positive.

The week prior I made sure I exfoliated off all my old tan so I knew that when I applied Eco Tan Invisible Tan, that would be the only colour I could see. I apply all my fake tan with rubber gloves, because even though the colour generally washes off your hands pretty well, after using fake tan as often as I do, your nails start to discolour which is not a good look!

I was hesitant applying Eco Tan Invisible Tan because I am used to using a tanning mouse which has bronzer in the product so you can see where it has been applied, so thought I may miss a few patches and come out blotchy in the morning. Never the less, I applied the product face to toe. Eco Tan Invisible Tan goes on like a moisturiser and doesn’t smell like much at all. I was actually thankful that I wasn’t using a product with a bronzer in it because it didn’t dirty my sheets when I slept with the product on. I only applied one coat and when I woke in the morning I was surprised that the colour was really even and came out as dark as my normal tanning product when I apply two coats, which is impressive! I found the colour to be lovely and natural, with no orange or green tones.

If you have any patches of dry skin I would avoid applying the tan on those areas. I have a patch of eczema on my left arm which came out really blotchy when the tan was applied, blotchier then any other tanning product I have used. I wouldn’t recommend applying the product to your face either, as it really gets stuck in your eyebrows and on any dry skin, again more so then all the other tanning products I have used (even after applying a balm to my eyebrows prior to fake tanning, and wiping off any excess product with a cotton bud post application).

But all in all I am very impressed with the product, would definitely buy it again and wouldn’t hesitate recommending it. The colour is great, and on me lasted a good two days before it started getting a little skanky around the seams (which is normal for me). But when fake tan comes off from my skin it is so much more noticeable because my natural skin is so fair. When the fake tan started looking a little too blotchy for my liking, rather then exfoliating it all of and reapplying, I wanted to see how it would look if I just reapplied another coat, over my existing coat. When I did this the colour came up as good as new, you couldn’t even tell that I had a skanky layer of fake tan underneath, which was impressive!

I love that when you have Eco Tan Invisible Tan on you don’t feel gritty like you do with other tanning products, it literally just feels like you have moisturiser on, which made putting clothes on after and sleeping in it a treat.

Spring Inspired Competition!

Spring has sprung and it’s time to pack away your winter gear and start switching your black basics for pretty pastels and bold bright colours.

Tried & Tested - Endota Glycolic Peel + Go Treatment

Since the introduction of the Endota Glycolic treatment and product range, I have been super keen to try out the in spa treatments to see what all the fuss was about. I admit, any treatment with the word “peel” in it sounds a little scary to me, but I had faith that any treatment from Endota was not going to leave me looking like Samantha from Sex & the City, when she got the chemical peel right before Carries book launch!

Last Saturday I headed down to Port Melbourne Endota for my very first Glycolic Peel + Go treatment. The Glycolic Peel + Go is a great starting point if you are wanting to see if the Glycolic treatments are of benefit to your skin, before you go investing in a series of treatments.

The Glycolic in spa treatments contain 15% Glycolic acid, a natural fruit acid in the family (alpha hydroxyl acid) which is derived from sugar cane. It is a mild, naturally occurring exfoliator that when applied topically loosens the bond between skin cells in the epidermis and dead skin cells revealing healthy, radiant, younger skin. it helps to eliminate and prevent acne, blackheads, improve acne scars, fine lines, uneven pigmentation and areas of dryness.

The Peel + Go treatment is AU$70.00, lasts for 30mins and includes:

- Cleansing of the face, neck and décolletage with the Endota Certified Organic Fig 'n' Sugar Cleanser
- Application of the Endota Glycolic Peel
- Removal of the Endota Glycolic Peel with a warm cloth
- Application of the Endota Glycolic Cooling Mask
- Scalp massage for about 10-15mins
- Removal of the Endota Glycolic Cooling Mask with warm cloth
- Gentle steaming of the face with a hot towel
- Application of the Endota Certified Organic Green Tea & Pea Eye Cream
- Application of the Endota Glycolic SPF 15 Moisturiser

The Verdict…
The whole treatment was absolutely beautiful. I was greeted by a bubbly therapist, who informed me of the ins and outs of the treatment and advised me that i should really notice a big difference in the appearance of my skin the next day. While the Glycolic peel was on, i was told that it may or may not tingle. For me the mask tingled ever so slightly which i was surprised about because i have such sensitive skin, but was also happy, because to me tingling doesn't indicate that the product is working it's a sign that it should be removed. I was so very happy when i was asked if i wanted a scalp massage during the treatment, they are my absolute favourite. This is optional though, so if you are going out that night and have had your hair done and don't want it messed up, you can choose not to have this.

After the treatment i felt lovely and fresh, but not too fresh (too fresh meaning scary Samantha fresh). I went the rest of the day with no make up on and had a shower and applied make up for Saturday nights activities. My skin looked amazing, i was so happy it wasn't even funny. My skin was brighter, softer and i looked refreshed. Because the therapist highlighted on numerous occasions that i should notice more difference the following day, i was pretty excited to see what my skin looked like in the morning. Unfortunately the next day i woke to a few large pimples, and developed more blemishes over the course of this week which i still have now. I wasn't to happy about this, because as soon a pimple rears it's ugly head, unfortunately any feeling of freshness is gone. I know that with some facials the cleansing of the skin can cause break outs, but i wasn't under the impression that this would happen with this treatment. Everyone's skin is different though and reacts differently to products then others, so do not let this discourage you from trying out the treatment.

I would get the treatment again, but would be keen to try out the organic facial treatments and compare them to see which has the greater benefits. When i asked the therapist which treatments she recommended leading up to my sisters wedding, she said if it was her she would get a course of the Glycolic treatments or a 30min Glycolic Peel + Go treatment in a few weeks and then a 1 hour Glycolic Spa Peel a week prior to the big day.

Tried & Tested - Gascoigne & King Pear Angelys Candle

Whilst browsing the internet recently i stumbled upon Ambrosia Candles, Australia’s newest online home fragrance store, providing customers with a beautiful selection of luxury scented candles.

The brands available online include familiar Australian home fragranceicons, ECOYA and MOR, whilst Ambrosia Candles also representsup-and-coming boutique Australian luxury labels Gascoigne & King and Floriosa. I was keen to find out which out of the many brands Ambrosia Candles stocked were the most eco friendly, so contacted Ambrosia over facebook with my question. Within no time at all, i had a response and was told to check out the Gascoigne & King range, a brand i admittedly had never heard of.

The Verdict...

The Gascoigne & King Pear Angelys Candle has easily become one of the my favourite candles of all time. All of my friends and family know that i always have beautiful candles around the house, to the point of almost taking it too far (i am currently looking at my coffee table where i have 4 candles lined up ready to burn). I like my candles to fill my whole apartment with their fragrance, and the Gascoigne & King candle does this well, without being overpowering or sickly.

The fragrance is so beautiful and sweet that it almost makes you hungry. I have had my Gascoigne & King Pear Angelys Candle for a few weeks now and have been monitoring how it burns over time, and the reason why i am so impressed with this candle is that it actually burns 100% evenly, leaving no ditches or left over, wasted wax on the sides. That is one thing that disappoints me, when you buy a candle which is on the pricey side, and 1/4 of the candle is wasted because it doesn't burn evenly!

The only reason why this candle is not getting full marks from me is because of the price point. As i said, i frequently buy candles for my apartment, and unfortunately for me i have a limit of about $30-$40, unless i am really treating myself.

Just to add, i was in SPACE Furniture on the weekend and noticed that they were stocking the Gascoigne & King candle range, so if that isn't an indication that their candles are pretty bloody good, then i'm not sure what is!

Joey Scandizzo Salon Launch

Last night I had the pleasure of going to the launch of the new Joey Scandizzo salon in South Yarra with the lovely Stacey Kruger coming along for the ride as my +1.

As we arrived we were greeted by the door man and welcomed into the salon. The salon was ready for a party, there was a table full of glasses of bubbly for the guests, two beautiful DQ Vodka models handing out shots of vodka, all hair basins were manned and full with ice and a selection of beverages. All areas of the salon were open to guests, including an outdoors space with a DJ, magnum ice cream freezer packed with goodies, and a party bus with a big Joey Scandizzo banner on it bordering the outdoor space off.

Shortly after we arrived the salon started filling rapidly with models, hair dressers, bloggers, more press and countless celebrities, including numerous Neighbours and Winners and Loosers stars, Grant Smillie, Brodie Young, Rebecca Madden and Ruby Rose the host of the night to name a few. The party was huge, with over 300 guests attending to help celebrate the Joey Scandizzo Melbourne Flagship Salon launch.

Tried & Tested - One Seed Perfumes

Anyone who knows me knows i am crazy about perfume. I don't buy as much as i would like, but i do try not to go anywhere without smelling divine. If you are someone who is fairly into green beauty products you would be well aware that the eco perfume market is one that has barely been penetrated, which means that there are very few products available and there is not much competition, so companies can get away with charging more for their products.

One Seed are creators of botanical perfumes, made with 100% natural ingredients which are handcrafted in small matches right here in Australia.

I have known about One Seed for quite some time, and have really wanted to try out their products. With the introduction of One Seed's new perfume Devotion i managed to get my hands on a few samples, and am so happy i did. Fragrances in the line include Courage, Freedom, Hope and Grace and the newest edition, Devotion. Like all perfumes, what fragrances we like as individuals varies from person to person, this is why i will just be reviewing my favourite One Seed perfume.

Fragrance Family: crisp green floral.

A wonderful chorus of refreshing pink grapefruit opening to a heart of gardenia and Bulgarian rose, accented by softly-spiced peppercorn and warming musk ambrette.

Heart notes: magnolia, rose, black pepper, gardenia

Base notes: sandalwood, musk ambrette, vanilla

The Verdict...

The Freedom fragrance was instantly my favourite from the One Seed range. It wasn't the sort of fragrance that you had to try on, live with it for a few days and determine whether it is you or not. It was love at first sniff. What i love about One Seed perfumes is that you can smell them on you all day. I hate perfumes where you loose the fragrance over time, or get so used to the fragrance that to you it smells normal (not at all). I don't like perfumes like that, i want to be able to smell my perfume on me all day, it gives me comfort that i am smelling lovely, rather then smelling... well just smelling (which many of us are conscious about). In saying this i am also someone that is very sensitive to smell, to the point of getting head aches and feeing ill, so there is a fine line between just enough and too much. One Seed have achieved this balance perfectly.

Freedom reminds me on spring and summer, which makes it great spring and summer, but also perfect for winter, as a warm reminder of the joys of spring. The sharp top notes of pink grapefruit are so refreshing and beautifully complimented by the subtle sweetness of the vanilla undertones.

Freedom is the next perfume on my "To Buy" list. I am so impressed with the quality of the One Seed perfumes and especially admire how they have successfully launched a 100% natural perfume range that has the same standard of quality and appeal of conventional perfumes, this achieved with not only a superior quality product but also through careful consideration to the packaging and branding of the product.

I love the perfume so much that i have an empty vile of the perfume which i cannot come to throw out, because i love opening it and smelling it at my desk. So looking forward to treating myself with some Freedom!

Wall Garden Wonders

Looking for inspiration for ways to decorate my balcony. Space in my apartment is limited and i am quickly running out of spaces to fill, pretty up and add character. I am very lucky that my balcony is half the size of my apartment, so i have a bit of room outside to work with.

I am thinking of doing a wall garden on one of the sides of the balcony, and planning on getting Dad to make me a beautiful bar table with a gorgeous thick wood, to better utilise the space on the left side of the balcony, which my bedroom looks out on.

I am loving these designs from Lushe, a Melbourne based company that specialised in the installation of hydroponic feature vertical gardens.

Organic Deodorant is For Hippies

Okay, so when most of us think of natural and organic deodorant we roll our eyes and instantly think; "hippy". Don't get me wrong, natural and organic deodorants will always be the healthier and safer option for us, especially considering that conventional deodorants contain harmful aluminium-based ingredients that are thought to be linked with the development of breast cancer.

I know i speak for many people when i say, i have done the rounds and tried the alternatives, but unfortunately i sweat quite a bit (such a sweaty child, which is such an embarrassment) and 9/10 natural deodorants don't do for me what they are supposed to do - minimise perspiration and eliminate bad odours. Anything that comes in a roll on, natural or conventional doesn't work at all for me either. The minority of natural deodorants that have worked for me are noticeably more expensive then conventional brands, averaging 3+ times the price. I also find that these wonderful, yet expensive products are also not as easily accessible or readily available, considering deodorant is a product that is purchased at convenience.

As a self confessed regular user of conventional deodorant, i thought i would try out Nivea's new Invisible for Black & White Pure Spray deodorant. The product was okay, i didn't notice any white marks and didn't notice that i perspired much with it on, but wasn't a fan of the smell or how the product went on and felt on the skin, it actually spat out the first time i used it - great first impression, not. The end conclusion is i wouldn't buy this product again and wouldn't recommend this product either. But some good did come of this trial, the inspiration to share my fave "friendlier" conventional deodorants and an all natural deodorant that actually works.

If you haven't had much luck with natural deodorants, opt for a "friendlier" conventional deodorant instead. These are my fave "friendlier" deodorants...

Dove Pink Anti-Perspirant Aerosol Deodorant, AU$4.99

The Verdict...
I am a fan of Dove deodorants, they smell nice and do their job. Dove Pink has returned for it's second year. If you are a fan of Dove products, swap your normal range for products from the Dove Pink range to support Doves drive in raising funds for researching the prevention and and cure of breast cancer, with a percentage of each sale going towards NBCF. This spray, like many others leaves white marks, but i find this can be avoided if the product is sprayed from a distance, rather then right under the armpit. Although this deodorant contains the regular nasties, i am always a huge fan of brands that donate a percentage of profits to charity. You need to buy the product any way, so may as well support a brand that is doing it's bit to make a difference - whether you consider it a marketing ploy or not, the contribution from the company and you is still making a difference, no matter how little or large.

Garnier Mineral Invisible, AU$5.45

The Verdict...
Garnier Mineral deodorant is free from alcohol, parabens and contains mineralite a natural mineral ingredient that locks in four times it's volume in water and also five times more absorbent then talc. This deodorant is great, stops you from sweating, leaves no white marks and perfect for those of us with sensitive skin due to the fact that it doesn't contain some or the nasties that most conventional deodorants contain like alcohol and parabens. I don't find that the fragrance of this product is as yummy as i would like, but is still very fresh.

Weleda Sage Deodorant, AU$23.95

The Verdict...
This natural unisex deodorant, is so refreshing, because it's pungent sage fragrance, and also because it actually works! This and the Weleda Rose deodorant and my absolute fave deodorants. So this isn't a deodorant i would wear out clubbing, but for daily wear during the week this is perfect. I find that the Weleda deodorants minimise perspiration quite a bit but not totally, does not leave any white marks and also smells divine! If you are willing to give a natural and organic deodorant a go, please try this one. It is a little different to the norm, but after a few days, when your skin gets used to the change in product, i hope you will find it works for you as it has for me. This product is fragranced with pure essential oils and does not contain any risky antiperspirants such as aluminium.

You can purchase Weleda products from many health stores, but i get my products on eBay because they are much cheaper (even just if you "Buy It Now"), if you are buying online have a look at what other goodies you can get at the same time to make the postage worth your while.

Name & Shame... My Disaster Hair Cut

So long story short, i got a hair cut on the weekend, asked for a trim and made it crystal clear that i was (and had been for months) growing my hair out specifically for my sisters wedding in November, and ended up leaving the hair dresser minus 3 inches of hair (no joke) and my dignity.

I know the hair dresser understood english and properly acknowledged my simple requests... but for some reason he felt compelled to chip into my hair like a 3 year old trying to cut up a paper snow flake. I could not say anything at the hair dressers at the time, because if i had of said a word i would have started screaming and balling my eyes out. So i opted for the more Grace Kelly approach, kept my mouth shut, paid the price and waited until i got 2 metres out of the hair dresser door before i started balling my eyes out, and called up my Mum screaming hysterically like a 10 year old who had just had their head flushed down the toilet by a bully at school.

So, prior to all this bull****, during the week i originally had made a hair appointment at Rokk Ebony in South Melbourne, which i cancelled because Mum got a text message about a 50% off hair services promotional offer Xiang Hair at QV had going, with the introduction of 2 new hair stylists. Trying to be a "Budget Betty", i chose the cheap arse option and as i said, stupidly cancelled my original appointment. To my defence the last time Xiang Hair had this same promotion going, again with the introduction of a new hair stylist months back, i took advantage of the offer and the hair dresser was so good that i continued to see her months after.

I have never been monogamous when it comes to hair dressers. I know what salons are good and call up what ever salon out of my chosen few, in what ever location in close proximity to my home, and see who has an appointment when i want it... which is generally a few hours after i call up. It obviously is not a full-proof plan, BUT, i feel that what ever salon you go to you should expect a standard level of quality that is consistent throughout the salon and it's franchises. E.g. you would not expect that half of the hair dressers at Tony & Guy are good and the other half are shit... it doesn't work that way.

So back to the hair, it was so bad that the hair dresser who got stuck fixing me at what used to be Rokk Ebony at South Yarra, now called Joey Scandizzo (the Rokk Ebony at South Yarra was brought out by one of it's part owners and award winning hair dressers Joey Scandizzo), told me to shut my eyes while she was showing her manager a part of my hair, and the manager replied with: "oh Jesus, how?". Which is never a good sign! Unfortunately not only did i loose the 3 inches, my hair had to be thinned out quite a bit to try and conceal the horrible holes and mess that the hair dresser from Xiang Hair had left. I know that hair grows back, but a.) my hair is my thing and, b.) i wanted a specific hair style for my sisters wedding, which i don't know will be possible anymore with my hair at it's current length and thickness.

My Mum was also a client at Xiang Hair, and i said to her that she should not go back out of the principal. She actually had an appointment booked for this Wednesday, which presented the perfect opportunity to tell our story, cancel the appointment and make it loud and clear that we were both taking our business elsewhere. It is a bit of a pain for her having to find a new hair dresser now, but the service or disservice that was provided reflected poorly on the company and was unacceptable. Offer a poor quality product and people will take their business elsewhere, that's how it works.

And for the new hair dresser at Xiang Hair, i sincerely hope he is fired. A trim is basic, hair dressing 101. If you cannot do a trim, find another profession! And if loosing two (and potentially more) loyal customers is not reason enough for Xiang Hair to give this guy the boot, then all i have to say is... best of luck with that.

I came across this bridal inspired photoshoot with Hopeless Lingerie and had to share. Everything about these photos is so tasteful and simply stunning.

You can go pretty crazy when it comes to buying wedding lingerie, as i learnt when i was told that sister spent $400 on a corset for her wedding just last week! So proud that my snob skills have rubbed off onto my entire family. The bra or corset for under your dress obviously has to serve the purpose; hold you up, in and make you look and feel amazing. But your knickers on the other hand, depending on the style of your dress can be as sexy pretty and frilly as you want. Which is always fun!

MSFW 2011 Eco Events

Today is a huge day for Melbourne and MSFW 2011, with the launching of the official Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2011 program, this years revamped website, the announcement pre-ticket sales and unavailing of the face of this once a year event.

Sophie Van Den Akker is the lucky model that was given the privilege of becoming the official face of MSFW 2011. Most of you will recognise Sophie from the popular reality television show Australia's Next Top Model, where she came 2nd runner up. Seeing Sophie in the media is a bit of a blast from the past for me and a lot of my friends. Sophie actually went to Warranwood Primary School, the primary school i attended. From what i can recall she was in the year level below me, and her older brother was my sisters age. I love seeing or hearing of the success and growth of people i know, even if i didn't know them well.

The Verdict...

I have tried the WOTNOT Powder/Bronzer Brush and use it daily to apply bronzer as part of my make-up routine. The brush is extremely soft, which is why i use it to apply bronzer rather then for applying my mineral foundation, as it lightly and evenly sweeps the bronzing powder over my face, without leaving patchy blobs when the brush first hits your face with product. For me this brush is too soft to apply the amount of mineral foundation i like to wear, i prefer to use a more solid brush for this. But i always find that after a bit of wear the brushes harden up over time.

I am no muso, in fact the most appreciation i have for music is dancing around my apartment in my undies with my iPod cranked as loud as it can go (yes, this is why i often have to ask people to repeat what they said). But i thought these were pretty cool and HAD to share!

How appropriate, the Double Espresso, as you may have guessed is made of vending machine coffee cups which show chips of cream and beige in a grey/black base. This material polishes well to a granite like appearance.

Super Fresh

Super Fresh is made with domestic bottles and containers of all types. Gives very vivid splashes and streaks of colour moving through the material. It even has a fresh soapy smell when first machined.

Chili

Chili is made from off cuts from industrial pipes. The mixture of colours produce a hot volcanic effect.
